Seven Card Stud Hi/Low - Rules

In a poker game of Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo there are five betting rounds and there can be a maximum of eight players at the table. These betting rounds do not include the ante at the final round.

The Deal

Cards are dealt where players are dealt two cards down first; the next card or the third card is dealt face up. After this card is dealt the first betting round begins and it is done by what is called a forced bet this is done by the player with the lowest face up card. This player has a choice of opening with a full bet. There are fixed limit and non-fixed limit betting in Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo games this is decided prior to the beginning of the game After bets are placed the next round of cards are dealt face up and then another round of betting, in this round of betting the low card starts the betting, they have the option to open with the full bet, after which other players can raise the bets up to three times.

Fourth Street

This card is also dealt face up and in a fixed limit game if a pair is showing the opening bet can be either the high limit or the low limit and betting is begun by the player with the highest ranking cards. Other players also will have the same option of betting high or low. This is also when some players will fold, as they know what their hole cards are that are not seen by the other players.

Fifth Street

The deal on Fifth Street is also dealt face up and the betting round is done in the same manner as Fourth Street with the high cards player beginning the betting and other players can raise. During this round players who do not have a good hand will also fold.

The River

This is the last betting round and the player who raises will be the first to show their hole cards, this is when players who have a hand that did not come through will fold rather than bet.
