Mike Matusow is known as “The Mouth” in poker circles because of his habit of trash talking at the poker table.

Matusow was born in April 1968 in Los Angeles California. Matusow began his tryst with poker by playing video poker in Maxim Casino. He often stole money from home to play and once joined Gambler’s Anonymous to seek help for habitual gambling. He first got involved with poker as a professional dealer and later as a professional player in the early 1990s. Talking about his early poker days, Matusow said that he was staked quite often by an older player in Sam’s Town and owes a lot to him.

Matusow has won two WSOP bracelets, the No Limit Hold ‘Em in 1999 and the Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better in 2002. In several other attempts he was placed 6th at best. Matusow was the winner of the 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, in which he defeated Hoyt Corkings. In 2004 Matusow came third in the World Poker Tour at the UltimateBet Aruba Classic. In 2006, he finished runner-up to come second in the WPT Bad Boys of Poker II. Also in 2006 he came third in the Tournament of Champions. Matusow has several other successes to his credit. Till the end of 2007 his live tournament winnings were in excess of $5.6 million.

Matusow also plays poker online. He is a member of “Team Full Tilt” and obviously plays there. He also plays as “dill pickle” at UltimateBet and “mrpokejoke” at PokerStars.

Matusow is either loved or hated. But never ignored. He has battled several personal problems in his life, including drugs and obesity. He is however a good person at heart and in appreciation of the financial help he received in his early days, he stakes young players to give them a start.
