Monster Stacks?

In a tournament I'm one to play a tight aggressive game. I always watch my place as the tournament goes on and I'm usually at the average chip stack or above it as the tournament goes on. I always see these chip leaders with monster stacks and I think man i need to catch up. Sure I've had a huge stack before but it wasn't till the near end. Well what i wanna ask is...How do they get these monster stacks and especially early on???? Is there strategy to it or are they just all in all the time donks???? I'm not sure maybe it's just good play. can someone let me know?? I'm just curious

It just depends how it goes early. Sometimes I am getting great cards early, people are handing me their chips and I'm chip leader. Other times I'm sitting in the middle of the pack. You need to try to play your hand to get the most chips from your opponent. I know that's easier said than done sometimes.

I think my problem getting a monster stack is that i don't play very many hands. I'm gonna try and open up a bit and see what happens.

You can open up to a point. You don't want to play every hand in early position. You can open up a bit more in late position.
