Default Playing Cash

The first KEY thing you should be aware of when playing at a cash table is to make sure you can afford to lose.. If you cant afford to Bust then simply DONT SIT

I play cash full time and this is my Basic Strategy for when I am at a cash table..

Play Tight

Once your at a table I think tight play is the key to success, for three reasons.

1... The more selective you are with starting hands, the better chance you have on a return.
2... Everytime you play a hand other players can get information on how, when, and what you are betting on.. (Table image is everything)
3... Any player worth his salt will be taking notice of when you play and what hands you playing with. (When you do play a hand, you should get his respect)..

Aggression

Other than your actual cards in front of you Aggressionis a cash players biggest weapon.. When you have a hand you are going to play then aggression is the key.. Make you opponents pay to saty in the pot. My favourit tatcic is to keep a uniform bet for any starting hand.( AA< KK QQ, even my favourite hand 78o) are always bet preflop at 4xBB. This may seem eccentric but it prevents your opponents figuring out what type of hand your holding and can cause them all kinds of problems.. Post flop betting should continue this trend.. Dont be afraid to put in a continuation bet if you missed the flop.. ( Remember that poker isnt always about what you actually have in your hand, as apposed to the opponents perception of what you may have..)

Enevitably you cant win every hand you play, so be prepared for your bankroll to go up as well as down.. ( Dont panic though) The blinds are set and will not increase.. This leads me to the next KEY tip to playing Cash tables..

Patience

Everyone loves to sit at a Table and hit AA first hand, This rarely happens.
Be prepared to sit for as much as TWO or THREE hours before you get a decent run of cards..
The KEY to Cash play is to maintain your focus, IF your not getting cards worthy of playing. (DO NOT PANIC)... Use this time to take notes on your opponents.. try to spot the calling stations, the aggressive players, the weak.. They are all sat at your table and it is always a good idea to spot them out as soon as possible...

Finally

OK this is the fun part...

You've hit a decent run of cards, they hold up and your stack has doubled.. ( WHAT NOW ? ? ?)..... This is an easy question, however many dissapprove of my answer but here goes...

Scenario ONE.. Your Three hours into your cash session and you have just managed to double your original stack.. WALK AWAY.. Then if you feel you have more play left in that table Re-sit with your initial buy-in...
Scenario TWO.. Five minutes into your Cash session you hit AA and double up or even treble your initial satck.. WALK AWAY.. Some people believe it is good sportsnameship to stick around and give your opponents a chance to win their losses back.. I say NO to this.. you won it so walk away with it and find another table.. Your risk at the table was exactly the same as theirs..

Cash tables are great for building your bankroll, but they are also very very high risk.. (One hand "Could" bust you out).. Be prepared to lose everything ( It does happen)...

Good luck should you decide to follow this BASIC strategy, I genuinely hope it helps you as it has me..

Good tips!

It's important to play only what you can afford to lose, and this goes for any type of gambling. Some people will lost and will continue to play trying to win back what they lost until they realize that they just blow the mortgage payment.

Knowing when to walk away when you have WON a nice amount is just as important as knowing when to walk away when you have lost. You don't want to give it all back right away thinking you're rich and can take more chances.

Your style of play is quite silmilar to mine... and in the long run will only bring you positive results...

I just have one comment about your "Scenario One" concept....

If you decide to walk away with your winnings but want to sit down again at the same table with your original buy in... you will need to wait at least half an hour or more at most sites..

Normally you will have to sit down again with the same amount you left the table with, if you sit down again within a shorter period of time...

by the time your half hour (or more) is up ... some or all of the fish that doubled your stack will have been gone by then...

So ... if you want to take the money and run... AND keep playing, you will need to chose a different table

Great strategy I mostly liked the final part about walking away - i do that all the time and i managed to make this rule myself after tracking my play for quite a long time and after noticing that if you double or triple up at the table bad play begins.

I like the players that keep losing their stack and replenishing their chips so I hope none of you are the ones I play against.

That's the one thing about giving people tips, you may have to face them in a poker game in the future and I hope I never give out a tip or info to someone that eventually beats me with that tip

Good thought ILovePoker, but i think the probability of facing the person who you gave the tip in one of the hundreds (thousands?) online poker rooms is almost like getting the royal flush

I think there's a better chance of playing against one of you than getting a royal flush, especially if any of you play at Poker Stars or Full Tilt
